Bringing Up Bates star Lawson Bates recently worked on a music video for his track, “Song for a Girl.” In the music video, the girl chosen to appear with him was Heather Martin, who you may recognize from The Bachelor. In an interview with People magazine, Lawson talked about the meaning of the song and why Heather was chosen to appear in the video.
About the Reality Stars
Both Lawson and Heather are reality TV personalities. Lawson is the fourth eldest child of Gil and Kelly Bates, who have 19 children and star in UPtv’s Bringing Up Bates. Meanwhile, San Diego native Heather also has been on reality TV, but she was competing for love with Colton Underwood on The Bachelor season 23. She ended up being eliminated after seven weeks.
Bringing Up Bates: ‘Song for a Girl’
“Song for a Girl” is a traditional country song that talks about a blooming romance between two young people. A clip of the music video was previously posted to Lawson’s Instagram account and fans loved it. They also speculated whether there was a real-life romance blooming between Lawson and Heather.
Lawson Bates’ Music Video
In the music video for “Song for a Girl,” Lawson has writer’s block and decides to ask Heather to go on a date with him in the countryside. They go fishing, sit by a campfire, hang out in his truck, and hold hands. Lawson told People the vibe that he wanted to create for the music video,
“‘Song for a Girl’ lyrically and sonically has that traditional country love song vibe that depicts the early stages of a blossoming romance. We wanted that carefree, summertime feel to be highlighted well in the official music video, and Heather definitely matched the vibe perfectly.”
Reality Star Talks About Heather Martin
Lawson explained that he filmed the music video with Heather in Nashville during the month of July. Despite how well they portray a couple in love in the video, the two actually hadn’t met before. He explained,
“Although we’d only met in person two days prior to the shoot, Heather is someone you feel like you could’ve been friends for years with, even though you just met; she has a personality type that lights up a room and brings a load of positive energy. She was super easy to work with, and helped make a 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. long, hot summer shoot day go much smoother than it could’ve.”
The Bringing Up Bates star admitted that filming the music video didn’t really feel like work because it was a lot of fun. He hopes that fans are proud of the finished product and is excited for it to be released.
