‘Counting On’ News: Jill Duggar Confirms TLC Didn’t Pay Her Until She Took Legal Action

Counting On spoilers reveal that Jill Duggar is doubling down on the controversial decision she’s made to distance herself from her celeb family. She and husband Derick Dillard talked about their status at the end of last year and now Jill is answering fan questions on YouTube.

Among other things, the former reality star confirmed that she took legal steps as a result of not receiving money from TLC for her participation in the show.

Jill Duggar acknowledges the show never paid her while she was on

Since Jill and Derick are no longer on TLC’s Counting On, fans have questioned how they make money since Jill doesn’t work outside of the home. She does however sponsor content on Instagram and she has a YouTube channel. It’s not clear if Derek is working since he’s attending law school which would take up a big chunk of his time.

In a Q&A video, Jill posted this week she got into how she earns money.

“Blogging, social media advertising, and stuff like that too, YouTube channel … All of those types of things. Those are definitely helpful with supplementing income and living off of savings.”

Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard are speaking out about how they make a living

Jill and Derick shared that their families encouraged a debt-free lifestyle as they were growing up and that philosophy has rubbed off on them.

“It was highly encouraged to not be in debt,” Jill said. “So, it wasn’t really an option for us to go into debt. Coming into marriage, I’m really grateful that neither one of us had debt.”

Jill went on to confirm that initially she wasn’t paid to be on the show, and had to seek legal counsel to recoup the money she was owed.

“So also, up until around the time we left the show, we hadn’t been paid for anything,” Jill verified. “Of course, there were perks that came along with filming. If you were traveling, or whatever, they might cover those expenses and stuff. And we were grateful for those. But we hadn’t been paid until we were really pressing about it. And ended up getting an attorney involved and stuff.”

Derek added, “Basically, once we got an attorney involved, we were able to recover a portion of what Jill should’ve been paid up until the time we left the show. Even if, in the end, it probably ended up being a little more than minimum wage at most, we were able to recover at least something.”

Derick throws shade on his father-in-law Jim Bob Duggar

Derick has hinted that patriarch Jim Bob Duggar is controlling the money earned from the show, something Jim Bob hasn’t commented on.

So it might surprise you to hear that the pair would come back–under the right conditions. Derick told The Sun, “We would only consider doing filming if we had a say in the terms of our arrangement.”
